Playing with your own OpenAI key

The game is free, but the AI behind it costs real money to run, so there's a monthly budget that covers everyone. If it runs out before the month ends, you can wait for the next month or keep playing with your own OpenAI API key, paying OpenAI directly; the game asks for it when you start a session.

Get a key

Sign in or create an account at platform.openai.com.
Under Billing, add a payment method and some credit.
Under API keys, create a new secret key and copy it. It starts with sk-.
Start or continue your adventure, and paste the key when the game asks for it.

Keep costs predictable

A session makes many model calls, and they are billed to your key. Set a monthly spend limit on your OpenAI project before you play, so you never spend more than you planned.

Your key stays with you

It is kept only in your browser tab and cleared when you close the tab.
It is used only to run your game, and never stored on our server.
You can stop using it at any time with Forget it in the game, or revoke it from OpenAI's API keys page.
